Understanding the Feed
Every item in the Insighthread news feed traces back to a real SEC filing. There are no press release aggregations, no editorial rewrites — every event is sourced from a primary regulatory document. Each feed item shows you:- Company name and ticker — the issuer behind the filing
- Event category — a human-readable classification of what happened (e.g., “Mergers and Acquisitions”, “FDA Approval/Rejection”, “Insider Buy”)
- Headline — a concise AI-generated summary of the key development
- 5-bar impact signal — a visual indicator of how market-moving this event type typically is, from minimal to Critical
- Timestamp — when the event was processed, typically within 60 seconds of the SEC filing
Filtering by Event Type
When you want to focus on a specific type of corporate action — rather than everything happening across 6,000+ companies — use event type filters to narrow the feed.Open the Filter Panel
Click the filter icon on the news feed toolbar. This opens the filter panel where you can control both event categories and other feed parameters.
Select Event Categories
Browse the list of 35+ event categories and select one or more that match your focus. For example:
- Select “FDA Approval/Rejections” to track biotech catalysts
- Select “Mergers and Acquisitions” to monitor deal flow
- Select “C-Level Change” to watch for leadership transitions that often precede strategic shifts
Filtering by Watchlist
If you’ve already set up a watchlist with tickers you care about, you can combine watchlist filtering with event type filtering to create a highly focused feed. Toggle the Watchlist filter at the top of the feed to restrict results to only companies on your active watchlist. This is particularly useful for portfolio monitoring — you’ll only see events from companies you’re tracking, rather than the entire market universe.- Broad Market Monitoring
- Portfolio Monitoring
Leave the watchlist filter off and set event type filters for the categories you care about. Ideal for:
- Discovering new companies entering a theme you’re watching (e.g., all M&A activity in energy)
- Scanning for sector-wide catalysts like a wave of FDA decisions
- Finding ideas outside your current holdings
Using the Impact Signal
The 5-bar impact signal is how Insighthread helps you triage a busy feed. Not every SEC filing is equally important — a routine Form 4 option exercise carries very different weight than a bankruptcy petition. Use impact levels to prioritize:| Impact Level | Description | Example Events |
|---|---|---|
| Critical (5 bars) | Highly market-moving; typically causes significant same-day price movement | FDA approval/rejection, bankruptcy filing, major acquisition announcement |
| High (4 bars) | Material event with likely near-term price impact | CEO resignation, large equity offering, significant litigation settlement |
| Medium (3 bars) | Notable but impact varies by context | Secondary offering, new director appointment, contract win |
| Low (1–2 bars) | Routine disclosure or minor corporate action | Standard proxy filing, routine option grant, minor amendment |
Opening the Underlying Filing
Every event in the feed is linked directly to its source SEC document. Click any event to:- Read the original filing — the full text of the 8-K, 10-Q, S-1, or other document that triggered the event
- Launch AI Chat — open an AI conversation scoped to that filing. Ask specific questions: “What are the deal terms in this merger filing?” or “What does this FDA rejection mean for their pipeline?”
Insighthread’s feed is not delayed. Events appear within 60 seconds of the filing reaching SEC EDGAR — significantly faster than most financial news outlets and data providers. You’re reading the primary source, not a downstream summary.
Use Watchlists
